One of the great opportunities that I had during my college years was to make a visit to the Grand Canyon. I was traveling back and forth from Florida to California (where I attended college) and during one of my trips I spent a couple of days visiting this amazing place. I really had no plan other than to drive around and see what I could see (which was not the best idea looking back). Nevertheless, one of the beautiful sites that I came upon was the Desert View Watchtower at the eastern end of the south rim. I first came to it early in the day and made a commitment to come back at the end of the day. This is one of the images I made that evening and one of my favorite memories from that time.

Beauty Unwelcome

Some of the older homes in my area are very beautiful. I love the old-style southern architecture. The image below is a great example of some of the homes that can be found in the Charlotte area. I knew how I wanted to edit this image as soon as I had made it. This is pretty close to what I had in mind. It is kind of moody, but I think a lot of fun. Enjoy.

Sunday’s End

Sunsets are always great opportunities for making a nice image. Typically you will get some interesting light and colors. On this past Sunday evening I headed out to see I could find a good location and what I came away with can be seen below. I did the editing in Camera Raw and gave it some final touches in Photoshop. There are a few things I probably would have taken more time on (like the orange fringe around the trees on the right) if I was preparing to do a print, but I was just having some fun with the image. Hope you enjoy it.

Some of our friends from church recently left their children with us so that they could spend some time together. I thought it would be a good opportunity to take advantage of a willing and able model. I wanted to practice using some of what I have been learning from the strobist blog. For the image I used my 580exii shot through a white umbrella. Enjoy!

Lake Wylie Panorama

I had been wanting to practice making a panorama, so early wednesday morning I woke and headed out to Lake Wylie to see what I could capture. As the sun started to come up I set my camera up on my tripod and captured a series of images of the sky and water. There were some really nice colors, so I just hoped that I was doing everything right. When I arrived home, I put all the images on my computer and stitched them together in photoshop.
